Roga Nidana Evam Vikruti Vignana Deals with the study of etiology of diseases and the pathology involved in the manifestation of diseases along the lines of principlesof ayurveda.
The discipline of roga nidana finds a parallel in the modern discipline of pathology.
DRAVYAGUNA
Dravyaguna deals with study of medicinal herbs& drugs, their origin, nature, properties & effects upon human beings.It finds its parallel in the modern science of pharmacology. It’s a complete science of herbal plants.
BHAISHAJYA KALPANA & RASA SHASTRA
Bhaishajya kalpana is the pharmaceutical department dealing with various types of medicinal preparations, their formulations, dosage etc. told in Ayurveda. Rasa shastra is a branch of pharmacy dealing with study of chemical substances used as medicines in ayurveda & their detoxification & processing etc.
BASIC PRINCIPLES
Basic principles Deals with study of history of ayurveda, its basic language sanskrit & all the fundamental principles related to ayurveda. Samhitas like charaka & ashtanga hridaya form the basic subjects.
AGADA TANTRA & VYAVAHARA AYURVEDA
Agada Tantra & Vyavahara Ayurveda Deals with various natural and artificial toxic substances and poisons in detail along with their antedotes , the signs and symptoms and also the management of poisoning resulting from the bites of snakes, insects, spiders, rodents etc as well as from the combinations of various other poisons &fatal doses of various poisons. Deals also with medicine in relation to the law, legal aspects of medical ethics and standards. This discipline finds a parallel in the modern discipline of Toxicology & forensic medicine.
PANCHAKARMA
Panchakarma, deals with 5 therapeutic procedures/actions. It is a long recognized,integral part of ayurvedic system of medicine and is popularly known as detoxification therapy essentially including biopurificatory procedures aiming to cleanse the channels of the body function; in both healthy and diseased people.
KAYACHIKITSA
Kayachikitsa Deals with the treatment of general systemic diseases. Kaya means body. It constitutes the substratum for health and diseases.The measures(diet, daily regimen,therapies,medicines etc) employed to bring about equilibrium of this body is dealt in kayachikitsa. Kaya also refers to the’ digestive fire’. Ayurveda believes that diseases are caused due to imbalance of the digestive fire(agni). Hence, kaya chikitsa deals with the correction of agni which in turn helps in restoration of health. It finds its parallel in modern discipline of general medicine .
STREEROGA AND PRASUTI TANTRA
Prasuti tantra deals with pregnancy, labour and puerperium. It finds its parallel in the modern discipline of obstetrics. Streeroga deals with management of diseases manifesting specially in women. The discipline of streeroga & prasuti tantra find a parallel in the modern disciplines of obstetrics and gynaecology.
